The Project
The project involved the installation of foundations to receive a 3-bay modular laundry / welfare building within the prison facilities. This case study focuses on the complex logistics and stringent security restrictions faced by Shanco during the execution of this critical project.
The client, a government entity overseeing correctional facilities, required a state of the art laundry /welfare facility within the CAT C Prison. The objective was to enhance the prison’s infrastructure while adhering to the highest security standards.
Overcoming Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was the security and restrictions protocols the prison environment demanded to be adhered to. Shanco had to comply with stringent background checks for all personnel and adhere to specific prison guidelines, ensuring the safety and security of both the workers and the prison inmates. Another challenge we had to overcome and adapt to was the limited access points and designated entry times – which changed daily. Coordinating the delivery of heavy machinery, materials and concrete wagons within these constraints required meticulous planning and execution.
The project had a tight 2 week lead time so Shanco had to streamline its processes to meet the timeframe without compromising on the quality of work, despite the complexities involved.
The Approach

Every logistical detail, from the timing of the deliveries to the movement of equipment, was planned in advance to minimise disruptions to the prison’s routine operations.
