Our recent collaboration with Gelders Group on a new Lidl store in Dalton stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence, safety, and professionalism. This project, set on a challenging brownfield site, showcases our capability to handle specialist groundworks across the nation with care and precision.
The Project
The Lidl Dalton project required a comprehensive groundworks package on a site previously occupied by a derelict WMC. The area’s varied elevation and extensive dereliction posed unique challenges, which were efficiently managed through our experienced team’s collaborative effort. This project followed our successful delivery of a car park extension for Lidl in Wakefield, further strengthening our relationship with the end client.
The Approach
Our approach involved a substantially reduced level dig to even out the site, utilising crushed demolition waste as fill material—a sustainable choice reflecting our commitment to the environment. We then laid over 2000 sq m of internal reinforced slabs, installed comprehensive drainage solutions, and constructed the necessary infrastructure for a fully operational supermarket, including a loading dock ramp, block paving, and landscaped areas retained by gabion baskets.
The Challenge
The presence of asbestos delayed the demolition phase, but our flexible project management allowed us to re-sequence the work effectively. This ensured the safety of our team and the community, and prevented any delays to the overall project timeline, demonstrating our ability to adapt and overcome unforeseen challenges.
The Results
Completed on schedule and without additional costs to our client, the Lidl Dalton store stands as a prime example of what can be achieved through teamwork, expertise, and a deep understanding of our client’s needs. Our ability to deliver complex groundworks projects with proficiency and care ensures not just the success of the project but also the strengthening of our client relationships.
