Shanco successfully completed comprehensive groundworks for a prestigious care home project in Rownhams, Southampton. The project involved significant earthworks and infrastructure development to support the construction of a state-of-the-art care facility.

The Project

The project required extensive groundwork because of the sloping terrain of the site. The scope of work included the removal of 18,000 tonnes of muck, construction of reinforced foundations, crane base and lift pit bases, and the installation of internal and external drainage systems. Additional tasks included establishing two main connections for surface water and foul water, installing new utility services, creating a car park with 31 permeable parking bays—including six EV charging points—and completing both hard and soft landscaping.

The Approch

To tackle the challenging site conditions, Shanco implemented a phased approach that allowed for simultaneous progress across different areas of the site. This strategy ensured that the muck shift operation did not hinder the overall project timeline. By carefully coordinating the work, Shanco facilitated the progress of other contractors on-site, maintaining segregated working spaces to minimise disruption. This approach ensured that the project advanced smoothly, even in areas with ongoing muck removal.
